This is a tale, as you will soon see, of the infamous keepers of Halloween.
A young terra was walking home from school. She stopped at the local book shop like she did every day. She in sense worked there. She would help the old man stock the selves and store the books, organize new ones and was all together was a nice helping hand. Her parents liked that she helped the old man and didn’t mind that she stopped there after school. One day while she was sorting some old, thick, and heavy books she found one labeled “The History of Halloween”. Intrigued she asked the book keeper if she could have it. A look of wonder filled his face when he saw the book she was asking about, then answered with a rather happy tone, “of course my child. Take good care of it.” She carried the book over to her bag and placed it inside.
The next day the book keeper asked her to come into the back room with him. Terra had never been back there and assumed it was just storage, but when she walked through the door, wow did she get a surprise. All around her the walls where lined with scrolls and not just any scrolls they seemed to be careful sorted by odd symbols she had never seen before. “What an odd thing for a book shop to have” she thought to her self. The book keeper walked up to a shelf that had an odd symbol above it. The same symbol that was on the scrolls closest to the self. He grabbed the bag off the shelf and handed it to terra, who started questioningly at it. “Go on, open it “the book keeper insisted. She took a deep breath and pulled open the bag.
Chapter two, the staff of shadow:
She looked inside the bag. She couldn’t believe it. Inside was what looked like a puzzle. She stared at the book keeper, “Why, in pumpkin’s name, are you giving me a puzzle???” “It’s a puzzle well worth doing my sweet.” He said with a smile. “Well what it is supposed to be when it’s done?” terra asked. “I can’t say” the book keeper replied. “Well do you have a picture I could follow from?” she asked. “Well no, but you do.” He replied. Terra gave him a questioning look. “In the book I gave you. You really should read it. Now go home and work on the puzzle. Bring it back when your done.” with that he ushered her out the door.
Terra found her self sitting at her desk staring at the bizarre puzzle that was laid upon it. After staring at it for who knows how long she remembered what the book keeper had told her and decided to read the book. Scooping the puzzle back into the bag, careful not to miss a piece, she pulled out the book and began reading. Finally she found a picture that looked something like the puzzle the book keeper had her doing. The picture was of a black staff of the shadow keeper. She read on to find that the shadow keeper was one of the four keepers of Halloween and where responsible for protecting Halloween town. “What’s Halloween town?” she muttered to her self. “Well now I have something to go by lets build this staff thing. She set to work on the puzzle and bit by bit put it together.
The next day she ran to the book shop as soon as school was out. She had to know more about this weird staff and Halloween town. “Is that you, terra?” came a muffled voice from the back room. “Yes its me.” she responded. “Come back here terra. I want to show you something.” Replied the muffled sound. She walked into the back room and saw the book keeper, a bag at his feet, and a locket in his hands. He beckoned her over to him. Then asked her in a kind and gentle tone, “So have you finished the puzzle?” She nodded. “Good,” he replied as he placed the locket around her neck. “That bag has every thing you are going to need,” handing it to her,”good bye terra.” He then opened the locket as a light engulfed terra.
The next thing she knew there was a flash and she was in the middle of a grove of trees. She glanced around. The book keeper, the shop and the world she knew had all disappeared.
Chapter 3, the pumpkin king:
She looked around. This place seemed familiar but new to her. It was then she recognized where she was. She had seen this place in that book about Halloween. She decided to check what the book keeper gave her before she vanished. Inside was the book of Halloween history, some of those scrolls with the weird symbol on them, and a bundle of black fabric which she guess was a cloak. A cool breeze ruffled her hair sending a chill down her spine. So she decided to put on the cloak but as she pulled it out of the bag something fell from with in it. Reaching down, she scooped up the small scroll. Opening it up, she read:
“Dear terra,
I am sorry to have sent you off with out an explanation of what was going on, so I will do my best to explain it now. You are the next shadow keeper. I have given you all the scrolls and books that I can inside that bag. The best thin for you to do now is to go through the pumpkin shaped door and find Jack Skellington. “
She rolled up the scroll and placed it in her bag. If only the book keeper had given her a description, that would have made finding this jack guy a lot easier. She grabbed her bag and walked over to the tree with the jack-o-lantern on it. Placing her hand on the jack-o-lanterns nose, it turned with a click and the door swung open. She looked inside but saw only darkness, bending farther in trying to see something a brisk wind caught her and pulled her in.
She fell down, down, down then as suddenly as her fall had started it stopped as she and a rather large pile of leaves meet. She stood up, brushed her self off and got her first real glimpse of her surroundings. The door dropped her on the edge of a large graveyard; beyond that was what looked like a town. “Well I better go in to town and see if I can find this Jack Skellington.” She said to her self. She walked across the graveyard and walked slowly up to the gate to the town. As she approached it rose up to let her in. she walked into the square a saw a tall skinny man standing next to the fountain. Wait no, not a man but a skeleton, a living skeleton wearing a suit. Behind her the gate came down with a small crash which startled both her and the skeleton man because he turned to see the cause. As the skeleton approached her terra wanted nothing more then to run or scream, but just stood there rooted to the spot. Then the skeleton spoke, “Hello I am Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King. Welcome to Halloween town.”
